Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! I just let all the boys (except Simon who is still under quarantine) out in my room while I cleaned their cages. Jake wasn’t a jerk and there was no fighting. I thought it might just be because they had so much space to explore, but, then, Tip chased him under my comforter and they were still fine. SO, I held Jake and Tip with their faces next to each other and there was no reaction. None.
I put them in the cage together and there has been no fighting, no puffiness, no hissing, no pushing each other around, nothing!!!!!!!! I am so happy right now! *squeal!!*
Then, just to make things more awesome, Merry actually let me touch him. It has been a wonderful night!

Yay! The same thing happened to me with my rats a few weeks ago! Now they all are in the same cage!
I’m not a fan of neutering as a rule but I’m so glad I did it with Jake. I think, once they get completely used to living together, he’ll be happier this way. He does sleep a lot which worries me but he is about a year old so he may just be being a squish. I’m going to try to get him more active once they all get a chance to adjust.
None of my rats are spayed. I have one very dominant female who he baby rats want to play with and if she gets tried of them she beats em up. She never draws blood though. I think it’s just her way of playing.
Yeah, I’ve noticed that rat mothers can actually be very rough sometimes. It’s just their way. I mean, at the store, they practically throw their pinkies around the cage but no one ever gets hurt.
I actually got River because Avery has so much energy so, when Masey gets annoyed, Avery gets into fights with her. I wanted to give her another young rat with lots of energy to keep her from bugging the older girls as much. Girls don’t generally hurt each other though. They’re just trying to make a point. Plus, as you said, their way of playing can often look like fighting. I wouldn’t worry about it. I only worry with boys because they can be so aggressive.
I’m glad Jake is chilling so he won’t hurt Simon. Simon’s just so small I don’t want to risk any injury…
Anyhow, mothers won’t hurt their babies. It goes against nature. I really wouldn’t worry.
thanks. That makes sense. I hope Simon does well.
Of course! Always happy to give my two cents. I really enjoy talking to you.
I’m sure he will. Jake is doing great and Simon’s a sweetie so I don’t anticipate problems.
Thanks. your a huge help. I wish little Simon luck anyways!
Awe thanks!
